The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will allow Russian Olympic team figure skater Valieva to continue competing in the Beijing Winter Olympics without any provisional suspension, its secretary-general Matthew Ribbe announced at a press conference on Thursday. On December 25, 2021, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) collected a test sample from Valieva at the Russian Figure skating Championships and sent it to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) certified laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden for testing. On 8 February 2022, the Laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden reported that the sample tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine.Valieva was immediately provisionally suspended by the Russian Anti-doping agency. The results came a day after the first gold medal was determined in figure skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics, with Russia’s Olympic team winning the team event and the United States and Japan taking silver and bronze respectively.Valieva appealed to the Disciplinary committee of The Russian Anti-Doping Agency on February 9, 2022. At a hearing held on the same day, the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency decided to lift the provisional suspension of Valieva and allow her to continue to compete in the Beijing Winter Olympics. The international Inspection Body (ITA) appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on behalf of the IOC.The International Skating Union (ISU) also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to continue Valieva’s provisional suspension. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said Thursday that valieva was not at fault for failing to notify her of the doping test results. In this case, preventing an athlete from participating in the Olympics would cause her irreparable harm. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said it would allow Valieva to continue competing in Beijing and would not impose any provisional suspension on her.The decision to allow the suspension to be lifted was appropriate.Source: China news network responsible editor: pomelo copyright belongs to the original author all, such as infringement please timely contact
